Starting on Wed. 3rd February there will be a course on Christianity, using Marcus J Borg’s book, The Heart of Christianity. Karen Armstrong writes this about the book: “A marvellous book that is both challenging and illuminating and effecting exactly the kind of transformation that Borg describes so lucidly.”
Borg is an American Episcopalian, married to a priest and is Hundere Distinguished Professor of Religion and Culture at Oregon State University.
We will meet at 19.30 in the upper room of St. Saviour’s hall on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. There will be 10 meetings and provisionally the dates are as follows: 3,9 & 24 Feb; 2,10,16 & 24 March; 13,21 & 27 April.
It would be useful to buy the book ISBN 9780060730680 before you start the course. All welcome!
“Spirituality is when the inside of things is bigger than the outside” - Fr Richard Rohr.
When we think of spiritual matters, we quite naturally turn to sacred things. Spirituality is of course about that but not confined to that. Hence the quote by Richard Rohr, which opens up the field. In the Episcopalian tradition, the Incarnation is taken seriously, as we celebrate our humanity, we acknowledge the Divine is within us and all around us. Retreats; Quiet Days and Pilgrimages are all vehicles to help us explore that reality.
The inaugural meeting of the Scottish Centre of Interfaith and Spirituality was lead by the Immam and the Pastor during their tour of the U.K.
During Lent we will be reading John Selby’s book, Seven Masters : One Path - Meditation Secrets from the World’s Greatest Teachers. John Gray (author of Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus), wrote about this book : ‘A beautiful integration of the world’s most effective meditation techniques in a unique format we can all readily master.’
Meetings will be @ 19.30 on Wednesdays in the “Upper Room” above St. Saviour’s Hall. In chronological order, we will study the first five Masters.
